historic colonial port City of Hudson has been called the richest dictionary of
architectural history in the state of New York. Established in 1783 by whalers from
Nantucket, in 1785 Hudson become the first chartered city in the United States, the first
chartered after the Declaration of Independence. The architectural heritage of Hudson
remains intact with many of its buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the centuries, the city has hosted many different commercial activities, running the gamut from whale oil processing, to cotton and brick production. During the past two decades Hudson has distinguished itself as a regional center for contemporary art. |
